58 Mazda Statistics: Production, Sales, Finance, Emissions and Workforce Data

Mazda’s reported scale spans more than one million vehicles a year, operations across domestic and overseas markets, and a product mix increasingly weighted toward SUVs. The figures below separate fiscal years ending March 31, calendar 2025 results, U.S. model-year estimates, and company plans so that unlike measures are not treated as interchangeable.

Mazda’s integrated-report production series uses fiscal years ending March 31, while its production and sales release reports January–December 2025. The distinction matters because the two series describe different reporting periods.

Fiscal year ended March 31 Global production
FY2021 1,171 thousand vehicles
FY2022 1,024 thousand vehicles
FY2023 1,135 thousand vehicles
FY2024 1,219 thousand vehicles
FY2025 1,207 thousand vehicles

In FY2025, the 1,207 thousand global vehicles comprised 749 thousand domestic units and 459 thousand overseas units. In calendar 2025, the company separately reported 1,156,707 vehicles produced, including 716,690 domestic and 440,017 overseas units, down 3.7% year over year.

Mazda’s calendar 2025 global sales were 1,256,215 vehicles, down 1.7% year over year. Overseas sales were 1,106,734 vehicles, down 2.5%, while Japan domestic sales were 149,481 vehicles, up 5.3%.

The calendar-year release also reported 611,174 exports from Japan, down 7.0%. Exports are not the same as total overseas sales because overseas sales include vehicles sold outside Japan through the company’s broader market reporting.

The reported FY2025 operating income was 186.1 billion yen, with a 3.7% operating-income ratio, compared with 250.5 billion yen and 5.2% in FY2024. This is a reported comparison, not a recalculation from the net-sales figures.

Mazda’s equity was 1,737.6 billion yen and its equity ratio was 45.8% in FY2024. In FY2023, equity was 1,439.6 billion yen and the equity ratio was 44.2%.

Investment measures also covered innovation and physical assets:

  • Research and development spending was 168.0 billion yen in FY2025, equal to 3.3% of net sales, versus 146.3 billion yen and 3.0% in FY2024.
  • Capital expenditures were 148.4 billion yen in FY2025, or 3.0% of net sales.
  • Depreciation and amortization was 117.6 billion yen in FY2025.

Mazda Regional and Model Sales Statistics

Calendar 2025 regional sales show different trajectories across Mazda-defined markets. The “Other Markets” category is a residual category whose boundaries follow Mazda’s release, so it should not be treated as a single country or a directly comparable region.

Market or category, calendar 2025 Vehicles sold Year-over-year change
United States 410,345 −3.3%
China 74,847 −8.4%
Europe 158,922 −9.5%
Other Markets 462,620 +1.9%

The same release reported 284,832 North American exports from Japan, up 1.6%, and 127,873 European exports from Japan, down 11.0%. Those are export flows rather than total sales in the destination regions.

Mazda’s FY2024 integrated-report comparisons provide additional model and market context:

  • U.S. sales volume rose 25% year over year to a record level in FY2024.
  • U.S. CX-50 sales rose 63% year over year to 51,000 units.
  • U.S. CX-90 sales totaled 41,000 vehicles.
  • European CX-60 sales totaled 27,000 vehicles, up 7,000 units year over year.
  • Japan sales volume fell 3% year over year; this population included registered vehicles and micro-minis.
  • European sales volume rose 13%, China rose 15%, and Australia rose 8% year over year.
  • ASEAN sales volume fell 7%, while Malaysia sales rose 20%; Malaysia is a component market within the broader ASEAN comparison.

Mazda Fuel Economy and Vehicle Emissions Data

The EPA measures below are estimated real-world manufacturer-level or vehicle-type measures for Mazda vehicles in the U.S. dataset. They are not direct owner surveys, and model-year 2024 values in the 2024 report were preliminary.

Model year Estimated real-world fuel economy Estimated CO2 emissions
2022 final 27.0 mpg 328 g/mile
2023 final 27.6 mpg 322 g/mile
2024 preliminary 27.8 mpg 319 g/mile

For model year 2024, the EPA vehicle-type table classified 10.0% of Mazda’s production mix as sedan/wagon and 90.0% as truck SUV. Estimated real-world fuel economy was 31.1 mpg for sedan/wagon models and 27.7 mpg for truck SUVs.

Mazda Sustainability and Carbon Statistics

Mazda’s FY2025 reported operational emissions were 119 thousand tonnes CO2e for Scope 1 and 778 thousand tonnes CO2e for Scope 2 on a market basis. The same measures in FY2024 were 112 thousand tonnes CO2e and 815 thousand tonnes CO2e, respectively.

Fiscal year Scope 1 Scope 2, market basis
FY2024 112 thousand tonnes CO2e 815 thousand tonnes CO2e
FY2025 119 thousand tonnes CO2e 778 thousand tonnes CO2e

Mazda’s sustainability report states that Japan plants and operating sites account for approximately 75% of the company’s global total CO2 emissions under the roadmap definition. A prior roadmap targeted a 69% reduction from those sites by FY2031, but the 2025 report says that target was replaced, so it is a historical target rather than a current commitment.

Scope 3 Category 11 calculations changed from a tank-to-wheel method based on selected-region sales to a well-to-wheel method based on global production from FY2024 onward. Scope 3 values across that break should not be compared naively; the operational figures above are the supplied Scope 1 and Scope 2 measures.

Mazda Workforce and Electrification Statistics

Mazda reported 20,910 men and 2,481 women in its FY2025 non-consolidated workforce. Women represented 5.1% of non-consolidated managers in FY2025, compared with 4.3% in FY2024.

Mazda’s U.S. showroom program provides a separate operational measure. More than 300 locations had completed new-generation showroom transitions by March 31, 2024, and approximately 90% of U.S. new-vehicle sales were attributed to new-generation showrooms in the FY2024 report.

Average throughput at U.S. new-generation showrooms rose from 736 vehicles per location in 2023 to 826 in 2024. The FY2025 plan expected 900-plus vehicles per location, while the broader plan called for more than 370 new-generation U.S. showrooms, approximately 70% of the sales network; these latter figures are plans rather than achieved outcomes.

Electrification planning was also market-specific. Mazda planned four new-energy vehicles, including BEVs and PHEVs, for China using partners’ technologies, starting with the EZ-6 in 2024; the report presented this as a plan, not as achieved sales.
