Nissan’s official Sales, Production & Exports Results for December 2024 reports both monthly and cumulative retail sales. Calendar-year figures cover January through December, while the fiscal-year-to-date column covers April through December.

Global retail-sales measure 2024 vehicles Comparison
December 2024 292,517 Down 7.9% vs December 2023
Calendar year 2024 3,348,687 Down 0.8% vs calendar 2023
FYTD April–December 2024 2,396,551 Down 1.8% vs comparable 2023 period

The calendar-year total fell from 3,374,374 vehicles in 2023 to 3,348,687 in 2024. Nissan’s reported December decline was sharper than the full-year movement, with 292,517 vehicles sold globally in December 2024.

Overseas retail sales, defined by Nissan as the total excluding Japan, were 2,873,308 vehicles in calendar 2024, down 0.7% from 2,893,796 in 2023. The overseas December total was 261,035 vehicles, down 8.0% year over year, while the FYTD total was 2,068,984, down 1.7%.

Nissan Sales Data by Japan, North America and Europe

The regional figures show different directions within Nissan’s reported sales footprint. Japan declined modestly, while the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe posted calendar-year increases.

Market or region Calendar 2024 sales Year-over-year change
Japan total 475,379 Down 1.1%
United States total 924,008 Up 2.8%
Canada 103,092 Up 12.8%
Mexico 256,227 Up 5.9%
Europe 354,937 Up 3.2%

Japan total retail sales combine Nissan-brand and mini-vehicle figures as shown by Nissan. Japan recorded 31,482 vehicles in December 2024, down 7.0%, and 327,567 vehicles in FYTD April–December, down 2.6%.

The United States total includes Nissan and Infiniti brands in Nissan’s table. U.S. sales were 74,294 vehicles in December 2024, up 0.8%, and 671,273 in FYTD April–December, up 1.3%; these are U.S. totals, not worldwide sales.

Europe’s 354,937 calendar-year vehicles represented a 3.2% increase, but its FYTD April–December result was 237,754 vehicles, down 2.6%. Canada and Mexico are calendar-year observations in the supplied series: 103,092 and 256,227 vehicles, respectively.

Nissan Sales Statistics for China and Other Overseas Markets

China was the largest clearly identified declining overseas market in the 2024 calendar-year regional figures. Nissan reported 696,631 China retail sales, down 12.2% from 2023, following a December result of 74,918 vehicles, down 24.2%.

China’s FYTD figure was 496,998 vehicles, down 9.1% year over year. Nissan notes that China uses January–September rather than April–December in this FYTD table, so the period is not directly interchangeable with the standard fiscal-year window.

The aggregated Others region, which includes Taiwan and other markets, produced a different pattern:

  • Others-region retail sales were 538,413 vehicles in calendar 2024, up 2.8% year over year.
  • Others-region retail sales were 52,203 vehicles in December 2024, up 4.9% year over year.
  • Others-region FYTD retail sales were 395,344 vehicles, down 0.6% year over year.

Nissan also notes that China and Taiwan within the Others grouping use January–September in the FYTD column. The aggregated region therefore needs its stated Nissan scope when readers compare periods.

Nissan and Infiniti U.S. Brand Sales Statistics

Nissan’s U.S. totals can be separated into the Nissan and Infiniti brand subtotals. The brand-level series makes the difference between the two brands visible, while the combined total remains the official U.S. total in the Nissan table.

U.S. brand Calendar 2024 sales Year-over-year change
Nissan 865,938 Up 3.8%
Infiniti 58,070 Down 10.2%
Combined U.S. total 924,008 Up 2.8%

Source: Nissan Sales, Production & Exports Results for December 2024.

In December 2024, the Nissan brand sold 68,657 vehicles in the United States, up 1.5%, while Infiniti sold 5,637, down 7.0%. The corresponding FYTD April–December figures were 627,107 Nissan vehicles, up 2.1%, and 44,166 Infiniti vehicles, down 9.8%.

The U.S. brand subtotals reconcile to Nissan’s reported totals: 865,938 plus 58,070 equals 924,008 for calendar 2024, and 627,107 plus 44,166 equals 671,273 for FYTD April–December. These are arithmetic reconciliations of Nissan’s U.S. subtotals, not worldwide totals.

Nissan Production Statistics by Country and Global Output

Production measures vehicles built at manufacturing locations and should not be treated as retail sales or as sales in the country where a vehicle was produced. Nissan reported global production of 3,144,470 vehicles in calendar 2024, down 8.7% from 3,444,164 in 2023.

Production location or scope Calendar 2024 production Year-over-year change
Global 3,144,470 Down 8.7%
Japan 656,990 Down 8.6%
United States 524,919 Down 13.3%
Mexico 669,941 Up 8.8%
United Kingdom 284,197 Down 12.6%
China 665,437 Down 14.7%
Overseas total 2,487,480 Down 8.7%

Mexico was the only listed country with a calendar-year production increase, reaching 669,941 vehicles. Nissan’s FYTD Mexico production was 506,827 vehicles, up 8.8%, while China production was 481,276, down 11.7%; the China FYTD measure uses January–September in Nissan’s table.

Monthly production also moved sharply in December 2024: Japan produced 50,654 vehicles, down 17.2%; the United States produced 31,369, down 25.7%; and Mexico produced 33,796, down 5.6%.

Nissan Fiscal-Year Sales and Production Measures

Nissan’s December 2024 release places calendar-year and fiscal-year-to-date observations side by side, but they cover different periods. The global retail-sales figures are 3,348,687 for calendar 2024 and 2,396,551 for FYTD April–December; they should not be presented as a like-for-like annual change.

The same distinction applies to production. Calendar-year global production was 3,144,470 vehicles, compared with 2,300,597 vehicles in FYTD April–December 2024, and the two figures are not an annual forecast or a direct year-over-year comparison.

For readers comparing the fiscal-year series, the main reported measures are:

  • Global retail sales: 2,396,551 vehicles, down 1.8% year over year.
  • Overseas retail sales: 2,068,984 vehicles, down 1.7% year over year.
  • Japan total retail sales: 327,567 vehicles, down 2.6% year over year.
  • U.S. total retail sales: 671,273 vehicles, up 1.3% year over year.
  • Global production: 2,300,597 vehicles, down 9.2% year over year.

The Nissan Sustainability data book 2024 is another official Nissan reference for revenue, global sales volume and production-volume data, but the detailed period comparisons above come from Nissan’s December 2024 results release. Nissan’s release distinguishes retail sales from production and distinguishes CYTD January–December from FYTD April–December; China and Taiwan within Others use January–September in the FYTD table.
