Nissan planned to forgo its FY2024 year-end dividend. Its Re:Nissan plan, announced in May 2025, targeted ¥500 billion in cost savings versus FY2024 actuals by FY2026; this is a forecast and company target, not a realized saving.

Nissan also reported ¥160,937 million in FY2024 environmental conservation costs, including ¥15,887 million of investment. Those figures describe environmental activities and are not the same measure as operating expenses or vehicle costs.

Nissan Electrification and Life-Cycle Data

Nissan’s global electrified-vehicle sales were 470 thousand in FY2024, below 507 thousand in FY2023 but above 204 thousand in FY2020. The category includes EVs, e-POWER and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Nissan’s life-cycle assessment covered approximately 80% of global sales models and 90% of European models. The assessment’s comparisons are model-specific and retain Nissan’s stated boundaries, configurations and counterpart assumptions.

  • The e-POWER Note, Kicks, X-Trail and Serena were each approximately 20% lower in life-cycle CO2 than their stated gasoline counterparts in Nissan’s cited FY2024 comparisons.
  • The LEAF was approximately 30% lower than a comparable gasoline vehicle in Nissan’s cited Japan comparison, assuming 100,000 km and a 40-kWh battery.
  • The Ariya and Sakura were each approximately 20% lower than comparable gasoline vehicles in cited Japan comparisons, assuming 100,000 km and stated configurations.

EPA data supplies U.S. fleet context rather than Nissan-specific outcomes. For model year 2023 U.S. new light-duty vehicles, average real-world CO2 was 319 grams per mile and average fuel economy was 27.1 mpg, up 1.1 mpg; without BEVs and PHEVs, EPA estimated average CO2 would have been 38 grams per mile higher.

BEVs represented 36% of U.S. car-SUV production.
